This is only a good thing when it comes to testing in the most intensive games. What we're seeing, though, is that under the most intensive situations, gains of 200% can be seen over a single GPU setup. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's just the nature of the beast when it comes to these three card setups. There's little to complain about here when looking at the performance. The HD 6990 + HD 6970 CrossFireX setup was my favorite performance configuration from the HD 6000 series and looking at three way performance here today, the HD 7990 + HD 7970 should no doubt be the performance setup to own in this generation. Mafia II also seems to hit this wall that is only present on AMD cards and while it's not as bad as it was with the HD 6000 series cards, it's still clearly present.Īs times goes on we'll see AMD improve the setup more and more and I think the one thing that is really exciting about the performance we're seeing here today isn't what three HD 7970s can do, but the almost "Sneak Peek" kind of preview into what a HD 7990 + HD 7970 setup could look like. Once we get to such a high level of FPS at some of these lower resolutions tests, it's just not possible to keep going up. The biggest factor when it comes to this, though, is the huge numbers we're already dealing with. Of course it's not always rosy and at times we see little to no performance gains. In Russia, an air force squadron led by Colonel Denisov and Captain Dmitri Sokov engages separatist aircraft but is ordered to retreat from the region after numerous Russian military installations have been attacked. In Scotland, Royal Navy Pilot Colin Munro encounters an unidentified passenger aircraft that explodes from an on-board bomb when undergoing training exercise. Air Force, and a Ghost Recon squad executes an operation to rescue Crenshaw. A joint strike force composed of the U.S. After halting an insurgent attack, a volley of missiles is fired at the Air Force base that Crenshaw was stationed at, with one of the missiles disabling Crenshaw's aircraft, resulting Crenshaw being in enemy captivity. The game begins with Colonel David Crenshaw participating in a routine patrol mission in the Middle East. The game is the sequel to Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., released in 2009. 2 is an arcade-style flight action game developed by Ubisoft Romania and published by Ubisoft. The main thing we want to know is if we move over to a three card setup from a two card one, is the performance there to make it a setup that holds real value? There's of course only one way to find out so let's get into the benchmarks and see just what kind of performance we're able to get out of the setup we've got here today. The main cards we'll be comparing the three way CrossFireX is going to be the two HD 7970 setups we've got here with the card running by itself and of course a pair of them running in CrossFire mode. On the comparison front we've got the HD 6970, HD 6990 and GTX 580. If you're new to the party, though, you can see that we use an X79 setup with an i7 3960X clocked at 4.7GHz. Like we mentioned in our introduction, if you've been following our HD 7970 content since launch then our setup here won't hold any surprises. but for the love god, the next CPU article you do, when you test gaming, throw a bench or two in there with very low settings. We would like to thank the following companies for supplying and supporting us with our test system hardware and equipment: Intel, ASUS and Corsair. It doesn't erk me that much here because this article isn't focused on CPUs. I complain about this in every article that includes CPU scaling. Just becaause that's not how we'd play the game, and just because the FPS would be insanely high, doesn't mean the numbers wouldn't be valuable. Humour us next time and include a bench or two with no GPU bottlneck (low res, eye candy). it shows CPU scaling, and every time I see CPU scaling demonstrated on toms, it's shown with a bottleneck on the GPU. This is valuable for knowing how the CPUs perform in the future, when one might have upgraded the GPUs, and the bottleneck dissapears. It shows that we don't need to overclock or buy expensive CPUs, when the load (bottleneck) is on the GPU.īUT if you would also show the CPU scaling in low resolutions and no AA/aniso, we could see how the CPUs might stack up. I know thats how many would play the game, and it shows the performance that one would expect with different CPUs. In every single TOMS article showing benches on CPU scaling, you use High resolutions with FULL AA and aniso! WHY?!
